At the end of your event it is important to announce the results of the day. This is a great time to do drawings, announce silent auction winners or other gift winners. Choose someone who is comfortable speaking in front of people, the tournament chairman, someone from the supporting charity. Make sure this person is well informed of who has won, how to pronounce their names, and the prizes won. You want this to go off smoothly and professionally. Practice never hurts.
Also, during your events you want to have some on course contests in addition to your team contests. These might include, long drive for men and women, closest to the pin, a one club hole, straightest drive hole. These can be fun for a team not playing well, to keep them from getting discouraged. Also, this can be a great additional fundraiser. Many times you can sell tickets for small costs, $5 or $10 dollars to participate. You can combine these with a mulligan ticket and make a “super ticket”. This “super ticket” might get you in all of the contest, and a mulligan or two for a less expensive price than if you were to purchase them all together. Again, an opportunity to raise another $2,000 or so for your charity. (50 golfers buying a “super ticket”, 1 mulligan, 2 raffle tickets, participation in long drive and closest to the pin contests for $40 a ticket)
You may want to have the golf course set up a putting contest on the putting green prior to or after your event. This will give your players who arrive early or finish early something to do. Also, for the more novice golfers, it gives them a chance for a prize.
Hole in one contests are very common. In most cases the first person making a hole in one on that hole that day wins a car or cash prize. In almost every case this is done by purchasing hole in one insurance. Upon request we can provide several very good companies that support this type of contest. Typically for a few hundred dollars, you can insure a chance of someone winning. Try contacting a few local car dealers and see if they will bring out a car for the day to show off. Many times they will buy the insurance for you and they get great exposure for their car dealership in return. Just a note from experience, contact these car dealers as early as you can. They get many requests. Other times instead of a car, you can have a cash prize. Imagine one of your guests or clients walking away with $50,000 in cash. Again a good hole in one insurance company will provide the costs for this. Don’t automatically discount this as too expensive, it is less expensive than you think.
